"Even dark plants can be a force for good." —Astrid Cole

Verdant Victories is a roguelike deck-building game mode found in Casual Match. Players start with a randomised Deck of Cards and go through several stages similar to Forbidden Forest gameplay, swapping Cards and obtaining upgrades as they progress. Players are also allowed to bring up to 3 Combat Plants and a Cole's Concoction into battle with them.

Verdant Victories can be played solo or as a team of three. There will always be six participants or teams in a session, though bots may be present if the lobby is unable to be filled up. Enemy players or teams are anonymous and named after notable witches and wizards such as Agrippa, Circe, and Ptolemy.

Basic Rules[]

The basic rules of the game mode as stated in game are as follows:

Deck and Attributes[]

A set of 8 Cards, half of which float above the rest.

Example of a starting deck with half the cards set to be swapped.

  • In Verdant Victories, all players start with the same base attributes and card levels.
  • Additional card levels provided by your Exploration Attributes and Echoes do not apply in Verdant Victories.
  • Each player will obtain a random, adjustable deck at the start of every session.
  • Companion Cards cannot be used in Verdant Victories.

Combat Stages[]

First image shows the Player standing beneath a row of icons. Half are ticked, one is highlighted with an icon of two wands crossed, and the rest are greyed out, but have icons of a wizard, a flaming face and a large trophy. Second image shows the number 9 overlaying a circle that is 10% coloured.

Combat stage progression and the counter for resurrection.

  • At the end of each stage, players need to choose their next stop in the session until it ends.
  • The stronger your opponents in a stage, the more rewards they will yield. Player encounters may also take place in Explore stages.
  • Defeated participants can resurrect after 10 seconds in combat. This does not apply to the final stage of each session.

Power Ups[]

  • Defeat opponents for EXP, which increases your level, raising your Health, Attack, and one other attribute of your choice.
  • Card power-ups have a chance to drop after each battle, enhancing multiple Cards in your current Deck.

Combat Plants[]

  • While preparing for a new Verdant Victories session, participants can select up to 3 Combat Plants to bring on their adventure.
  • The usage status for each Combat Plant resets at the start of every stage. Use them to aid your every battle!
  • Slide left and right during combat to switch the play order of your Combat Plants.
  • Combat Plant power-ups can be obtained to strengthen your plants further.[1]

Cole's Concoctions[]

  • One Cole's Concoctions can be equipped and consumed while preparing for a new Verdant Victories session. Its effect will last through the entire session.
  • While teamed up, the effects of equipped concoctions will apply to all team members.
  • When two team members equip concoctions of the same type, their effects will stack.

Rewards[]

  • Combat Plants and Cole's Concoctions may drop during a Verdant Victory session.
  • Defeating players in Verdant Victories yields a set amount of Lost Medals. On top of that, you will also receive half of the Lost Medals in the defeated player's possession.
  • Those who triumph in the final stage can challenge a very special Niffler. Defeat the Niffler for Niffler's Crown, a very rare reward.

Stage 1 2 3 4 5 6 7
Solo mode Battle Miniboss Versus Battle Battle Elimination Boss
Team mode Battle Miniboss Versus Battle Battle Elimination Boss

Battle stages[]

Enemies spawn in waves, and later stages spawn stronger enemies.

A special enemy will spawn partway through (except for the first Battle stage). These special enemies have much higher Health than other enemies and some way of mitigating damage: Nifflers are immune to control effects, Diricawls teleport randomly around the battlefield(when injured?), and Thunderbirds periodically cause lightning strikes that stun. However, killing them will net you a Card power-up.

You are guaranteed a Card swap and Card power-up at the end of a Battle stage.

Miniboss stages[]

In this stage, you will fight a miniboss with high Health. Weaker enemies will also periodically spawn. You are guaranteed two Card swaps and a Card power-up at the end of this stage, and an extra Card power-up if you kill the miniboss.

Versus stages[]

You will face off against another player/team in a special arena. These arenas usually utilise a special gimmick, such as periodic Tebo charges, a high-interval Thunderstorm where you must hide in fog, or a Winged Catapult arena. Killing enemy players can net you Lost Medals. You are guaranteed a Card swap and a Card power-up at the end of this stage.

Elimination stages[]

  • In solo mode, you will immediately enter a showdown with the other five players.
  • In team mode, you will first enter a preliminary stage where you face off with another team. The winners of this stage will go on to the final stage, leading to a three team showdown.

The elimination stage is set in a gradually shrinking arena. Stepping outside the safe area into the surrounding fog will deal large amounts of damage to players, but not to summoned units.

Boss stage[]

The winner(s) of the showdown will have the chance to kill the boss Niffler, which has a large amount of Health and periodically Apparates around the arena. Once the 1 minute counter is up, the Niffler will become enraged and deal massive damage.

Losing at any point of the elimination rounds may cause you to lose some of the rewards you picked up along the way.

Power-Ups[]

Killing enemies nets you Experience, and each Level grants you an opportunity to choose from three attribute enhancements. These can increase your Health, MP Regen Speed, Spell Card Damage, Summon Health, Summon Movement & Attack Speed, or Summon Attack.

There are four branches of Card power-ups that lead up to the four Ultimate Talents:

  • MP Efficient: red power-ups that buff Spell damage
  • Double Cast: blue power-ups that buff AoE Spells
  • Shield+: yellow power-ups that buff Summons
  • Invisibility: green power-ups that buff projectile Spells

Choosing three of a single colour gives you the chance to get an Ultimate Talent (i.e. when the game offers you three power-ups to choose from, one of them may be an Ultimate Talent, indicated by its iridescent symbol).

A full list of power-ups is in the works.

Combat Plants[]

Combat Plants come in three rarities: Radiant, Flourishing, and Hardy. These affect each plant's Health, Damage, size, and special effects.

Mandrake[]

When you summon a Mandrake, it screams in a set area and causes nearby opponents to be feared for 3/2.5/2 seconds and take additional damage based on 6%/5%/4% of their max Health for each negative effect that they are under.

Puffapod[]

The Puffapod will periodically shoot beans at enemies. When you cast spells that launch Magical Projectiles (such as Stupefy or Glacius), the Puffapod will launch the same projectiles. Your spell upgrades will carry over to the Puffapod's projectiles (i.e. if you get a power-up that increases your projectile size, the Puffapod's projectiles will be similarly increased).

Fanged Geranium[]

The Fanged Geranium periodically attacks enemies in front of it with its fangs. When the player upgrades their MP Regen Speed, Spell Damage, and Health, the Fanged Geranium's Attack Speed, Damage, and Health are enhanced respectively.

Chinese Chomping Cabbage[]

Three Chinese Chomping Cabbages will charge towards a set location, knocking back obstacles before attacking, similar to the Stack of Monster Book of Monsters. Using a card will add 1 level of enhancement to the Chinese Chomping Cabbage, increasing its Attack Speed, Movement Speed, Size, and Attack Range up to 5 stacks.

It seems changing the order of your Combat Plants before you begin a session does not affect the order of use in battle. Instead, it offers your lowest rarity plants first.

Cole's Concoctions[]

  • Cole's Concoction of Abundancy: Defeated players drop 1 additional Lost Medal.
  • Cole's Concoction of Collection: Increases the drop rate of Season Tokens by 20%.
  • Cole's Concoction of Cultivation: Increases the drop rate of Cole's Concoctions by 15%.
  • Cole's Concoction of Damage: Increases damage done by 5%.
  • Cole's Concoction of Experience: Increases experience gained in combat by 10%.
  • Cole's Concoction of Flourish: Decreases Combat Plant cooldown by 3 seconds.
  • Cole's Concoction of Haste: Increases Attack and Movement Speed by 10%.
  • Cole's Concoction of Perception: Increases the drop rate of Combat Plants by 15%.
  • Cole's Herbal Drop: Up to 3 may be used per session to refresh your card list or upgrades.

It seems that if you gain multiple bonuses in one stage, you can only use Cole's Herbal Drops for the first two[unconfirmed].

Leaderboard[]

There are three leaderboards: Total Score, Medal, and Niffler Leaderboards. The game states that "The Medal and Niffler Leaderboards assign rankings based on the number of opponents defeated." Most likely, the Medal Leaderboard counts players defeated while the Niffler Leaderboard counts Niffler bosses defeated.

Rewards[]

Seasonal rewards for Verdant Victories are distributed according to rankings on each leaderboard before they reset. Solo Mode 1st/2nd/3rd/4th/5th/6th place will yield 10/7/4/0/0/0 pts in the overall scoreboard, while Team Mode 1st/2nd/3rd/4th place will yield 10/6/3/0 pts, respectively.
